Finally -- A Better Choice for Physician Assistants, from HPSO.

Because you work so closely with physicians, Physician Assistants face a unique set of legal risks. You are more likely than most other healthcare professionals to be named in a lawsuit which also names a physician. It's important that you have the appropriate, individual professional liability insurance in place to protect your finances and your career.

HPSO is the #1 provider of professional liability insurance for over 1 million healthcare professionals, and is now offering the same quality coverage, financial strength and level of service to Physician Assistants.

"But I already have professional liability insurance, through my doctor (or hospital)."

You may believe, as many healthcare professionals do, that if you're named in a malpractice lawsuit, your employer's coverage will fully defend you. This is not always the case. With employer-provided coverage, your limits are oftentimes shared with all defendants; you may have no coverage for off-duty incidents; or your coverage may be canceled following a job change. Plus, coverage through an employer rarely includes coverage for your defense of a license complaint.

"I've heard that if I carry my own individual policy, then I become a target for lawsuits."

This is a myth. Your insurance status is privileged information. In fact, HPSO cannot release information about your status without your written permission.

Plaintiffs- attorneys do not know your insurance status when they name you as a defendant in a lawsuit. They won't know what insurance coverage you have in place until the discovery phase of the trial. At that point you've already been named in the suit and need your own protection.

Coverage that protects your interest first

Through HPSO, you get Professional Liability Protection with limits of up to $1,000,000 each claim, up to $3,000,000 aggregate in claims-made coverage. It is important for PAs to carry limits of liability commensurate with those of their supervising physician. To qualify for the highest possible limits, we ask you when applying to provide a copy of your supervising physician's current Declarations Page.
